Hey everyone, Roger here with some strange and pointless news. Everyone remember back in 2006 when it was decided that Pluto didn't fit the requirements to be a planet? More after the jump
Well, last week at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics a debate was held arguing that the International Astronomical Union was wrong when it redefined the requirements of planet-dom (my word) and Harvard Science historian Owen Gingerich argued that "a planet is a culturally defined word that changes over time."
The voters agreed and at the end of the debate it was decided that Pluto should be classified a planet. What does that mean? Pretty much nothing. It wasn't an official event, Pluto's classification remains unchanged from 2006... But if you really really want to call Pluto a planet, a whole bunch of scientists now officially say it's OK.
